Weekend adventures at the Welsh Mining Experience

Your weekends and school holidays just got even more exciting – thanks to the award-winning Welsh Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park.

The attraction has just been named Family Venue of the Year by the Welsh Hospitality Awards and granted official Museum status.

With the arrival of new opportunities for mini craft lovers and a paradise for chocolate lovers, there has never been a better time to visit!

The highlight remains the Black Gold Underground Tours, led by the same men who once worked hundreds of metres underground, in perilous conditions, at the Lewis Merthyr Colliery.

The friendly guides fit your miner’s helmet and share their experiences and memories as you adventure underground, re-telling our epic tale of industry and community, which is known the world over.

Hold on tight as you board DRAM! A cinematic experience in which you ride the last dram of coal as it makes it way up to the pithead. You could be in for a bumpy ride.

New for 2019

Craft of Hearts: A treasure trove of craft, where you can pick up your own supplies for home or join hands-on sessions in crafting, journaling, crochet, knitting, floral crafts and more. Sessions vary so please contact us or check Facebook for the latest opportunities.

The Chocolate House: This award-winning business is already a firm favourite with chocolate-lovers. They have now moved to the Welsh Mining Experience, where they will be selling their sweet treats and also offering bespoke experiences, where you can make your own goodies. Chocolate House will also be operating Caffe Bracchi on site in 2019, offering hot and cold food and snacks, afternoon teas and more.

Welsh Mining Experience also hosts events throughout the year, including interactive sessions where you can handle every day items from the past, walks in the local area and more. Check the Facebook page to see what’s on.
