Trago’s mega store in Merthyr Tydfil is the new retail destination to shop, play and eat!

Trago is an independent, family-run business, founded in Cornwall in the 1960s and has been at the vanguard of discount retailing ever since. With stores in Liskeard and Falmouth (Cornwall) and Newton Abbot (Devon), it opened its first ever mega store in Wales earlier this year; off the A470 and bang opposite the Cyfarthfa Retail Park in Merthyr Tydfil.

Packed full of bargains, it offers over 200,000 products across 38 departments, including carpets, DIY, furniture, kitchens and bathrooms – in fact, everything you could want for your home or garden – as well as sports, toys, clothing, pet products and plenty more. In addition to all that retail therapy, there’s Trago’s own food outlets for hungry shoppers; The Brickworks Café & Coffee Bar and a takeaway, For Cod’s Sake.

Adjacent to the main building is the recently opened state-of-the art soft play facility, Play-Zone@Trago, which includes exploring zones, arranged over several levels with slides and interactive technology, ball pool, tunnels and a sports court. There is also a Sensory zone that’s perfect for children with special needs, a dedicated toddler section and also role-play and reading areas, plus four fantastic themed party rooms (Space, Jungle, Under the Sea and Enchanted Forest). The building also includes a servery, which offers hot and cold beverages and light snacks.

Entry to Play-Zone@Trago starts from £1.99 per child, during off-peak periods, and offers free entry for children aged under one. Group discounts, together with special concession prices for Blue Badge holders, carers, fosterers, NHS, emergency services and armed forces are available, upon showing photo ID.

In addition, and located in the Piazza in front of the store’s main entrance, are 11 units with independent retailers, including small food outlets, bakeries and a hairdresser. There is also a Tourist Information Centre providing an important service, promoting Merthyr Tydfil and the wider South Wales area to locals and visitors alike.

Trago is already planning to develop the site further, by adding a petrol filling station that will be Shell branded but run by Trago, and Trago2Wheels – a motorcycle, ped-lec and bicycle dealership. Trago also plans to create similar family leisure activities to those already in situ at Trago’s Newton Abbot site in Devon and which are hugely popular with locals and those from further afield.
