Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence, £77, Space NK

"I use this spray every day and it honestly saves my life. I spray it directly on my face in the morning which wakes me up, I use it to take make-up off and I use it on a flight when my skin's dehydrated. It's a really good staple thing to have in your bathroom, and you can get mini versions to put in your handbag."

Coco Calming Face Mist, £6, 60ml, The Body Shop

"I'm a bit of a perfume nerd, and I really love finding different perfumes - I've got everything from Le Labo to Tom Ford which are amazing, but I also really like The Body Shop's Coco Mist. It smells like a dream and it's not expensive or anything. It shows that you don't need to spend a thousand pounds on a good perfume or scent."

doTERRA Peppermint Mentha Piperita, £22.95, Amazon

"I really do believe in aromatherapy oils. I carry a humidifier around with me and I put oils in it depending on how I'm feeling. DoTerra does all all kinds of oils - you can put them under your nose for clearer breathing or you can put them on your pulse points to relax or energise, and I think they really do work."

Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Mascara, £26, Space NK

"I always bang on about this mascara. It doesn't come off and give you a black mark around your eyes, instead it peels off in the shower when it gets warm. It's so good - I don't use any other mascara than this one at the moment."

Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Repair & Protect, £1.98, Superdrug

"At the moment my hair is in such good condition that I don't have to do anything to it. I'm not saying that in a boastful way, it just really makes a difference using Pantene's Three Minute Miracle. It puts my hair into a place where I don't need to do that much to it which is amazing, because I don't really have time to."

The singer might not be able to contour, but she’s always been interested in beauty.
With her signature golden locks and fresh-faced look, Ellie Goulding’s beauty aesthetic is almost as iconic as her catchy pop songs.

The 31-year-old has a packed schedule of studio sessions, travelling and performing, which no doubt makes it hard to stay on top of a self-care regime. Even though she’s not the type of person who’ll be first in line for the latest make-up palette, Goulding is still interested in beauty – in particular, she has an unmitigated obsession for perfumes and scents.

We sat down with the singer to find out a bit about taming her hair, what’s in her make-up bag and how she takes care of herself.

Her attitude to beauty…

“My earliest memory of beauty is my mum letting me do her make-up for her,” Goulding says. Proving she’s one of the most relatable celebs out there, she says: “I would always sneak into her room and steal her foundation because I couldn’t afford make-up myself… which I feel bad about now!”

Goulding has always been into beauty, even if she doesn’t know how to contour, and is jealous of her sister who does. Luckily, working in the industry she does, Goulding has been able to pick up a lot of tips from the professionals.

These don’t even have to involve expensive products or complicated techniques. “One make-up artist was a big believer in the spoon in the freezer method,” Goulding says. “You put it under your eyes before applying any make-up and it settles down the face if you’re a bit swollen.”

Her iconic hair…

Ever since bursting onto the scene and winning the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2010 Brit Awards, Goulding has been instantly recognisable for her tousled blonde mane.

“I’ve always been known for my long, wild and crazy hair,” Goulding says, but it hasn’t always been honey blonde. “When I was a teenager I had a very unique look and was a bit of a goth – I dyed my hair black, had my lip pierced and wore lots of eyeliner.”

Even before this, Goulding’s mum would try her best to tame her unruly mane. “She would do it into a really tight French plait so she didn’t have to deal with it for a few days, but when it came out my hair would be massive!” she says.

After taking charge of her own hairstyle, it’s become a way for Goulding to express her individuality. “I’ve always been androgynous,” she explains. “And I guess my hair made me kind of feminine.”
