Could you put your best foot forward to help Macmillan build Y Bwthyn at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital?
Macmillan Wales is inviting you to be part of something extra special this summer as our wonderful Wales walks arrive in the Rhondda and Llantrisant.
Best of all, money raised from the walks will go towards the £7m Y Bwthyn Macmillan Specialist Care Unit we’re building with Cwm Taf University Health Board in your community to support people who need end of life care.
The new eight-bed unit will offer a comfortable and welcoming environment to people with incurable cancer and other conditions who need inpatient, outpatient or day palliative care.
Macmillan’s committing £5m towards the state-of-the-art unit with the additional £2m being given by the Welsh Government through its All Wales Capital Programme.
The National Garden Scheme is generously donating £2.5m towards Macmillan’s £5m commitment – but we need your help to raise the extra funds we need to build this specialist unit.
The local walks start on Saturday 7th July, when we will be celebrating 10 glorious years of our Macmillan Rhondda Walk.
Since the first walk a decade ago, the Rhondda Walk will have raised more than £200,000 to help Macmillan support people affected by cancer here in Wales.
This year, we’re getting ready to do it all again in a new location.
The 10-mile route takes walkers through the sights and sounds of one of the most iconic valleys in Wales.
It starts at 10am from Coleg Y Cymoedd’s Rhondda campus, where the walk will also end.
Our second walk in your community is the annual Llantrisant Walk, which starts and finishes at Llantrisant Leisure Centre at 11am on Sunday 2nd September.
Now in its third year, this family-friendly event is organised by Macmillan’s fantastic Pontyclun and District Fundraising Group who are fundraising for Y Bwthyn.
This year they’re introducing a four-mile walk in addition to the eight-mile route.
Both routes are ideal for families and are also dog-friendly!
The after-walk party at 1pm ensures everyone has a great time with complimentary refreshments and entertainment including a bouncy castle for all walkers.
So, what are you waiting for?
Dig out your walking boots, team up with family, friends or colleagues and have a fantastic day out while raising vital funds for our new palliative care unit Macmillan’s building in your community.
Registration is easy. Simply register online or call us on 0300 1000 200.
