It wouldn’t be Christmas without seeing a panto or two and this year the New Theatre Cardiff has pulled out all the stops with a sparkling production of Cinderella which the kids absolutely loved.
“So much fun, can we see it again”, Lola aged 8.
Gok Wan is the star attraction and he threw himself into the role of Fairy Gokmother with gusto, floating onto the stage on glittery crescent moon to rapturous applause.
Gok was on and off the stage throughout, appearing with a bang and a puff of smoke every time, he was high-energy and great with lots of audience participation.
The Ugly Sisters otherwise known as Claudia and Tess played by Mike Doyle and Ceri Dupree, steal the show from the second they walk on with their outrageous costumes. They are the ultimate villains you love to hate.
Sharped tonged, witty and deliciously mean, they tease and poke fun at the audience with lots of sassy laugh-out-loud comedy. Their Shirley Bassey number is one to watch out for.
“The Ugly Sisters were by favourite, especially Claudia when she came out as a dressing table”, Ella aged 8.
He have to mention Phil Butler as Buttons, he is on stage from start to finish and the kids loved his endearing silliness.
One of the highlights of the show was The Ugly Sisters and Buttons tripping over some cheeky tongue-twisters that had the audience in fits of laugher.
You can expect a classic, family friendly panto filled with fun and frivolity. Produced by Qdos, it’s a high quality production that’s guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit.
They brought the night to a close with a hilarious rendition of The 12 days of Christmas which was a big hit with the crowd and a great way to end the show on a high.
For laugh-out-loud festive fun, with lots of sparkle, glitter and cheesy jokes, the New Theatre panto is a must see.
