While spending several months in a Welsh holiday house filming new movie You Should Have Left, Kevin Bacon promptly fell in love with the landscape. But as the A-lister gushed over the “incredibly beautiful, rolling hills,” he admitted the Welsh accent was beyond him. “I can’t do a Welsh accent at all,” he said, “I would not even approach it. But it is a really beautiful language.”
He wouldn’t be the first Hollywood A-lister to struggle with Welsh intonation. Tom Hardy prompted derision with his effort in 2013 psychological drama Locke – particularly hard to ignore since he’s the only character on screen for the entire movie. He went on to admit he’d learned the accent from a contractor in Afghanistan while researching another film, a man he later discovered to be English.
