Get active to raise money for our local NHS

Sunday 20th May will see a very special celebration in Cardiff Bay, marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NHS right here in Wales where it all started, with the chance to raise money for our local wards, departments, clinics and hospital research.

Cardiff & Vale Health Charity ,the official charity supporting all the work of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, has partnered with Light Up Events for a 5k run, a 10k run and a once-in-a-lifetime Bed Push Challenge in Cardiff Bay!

The Bed Push Challenge is for teams of 4 – 5 people to push a decommissioned hospital bed as fast as they can across the Barrage and back. Teams will win prizes for fastest time, most sponsorship raised, and best-dressed bed, but there are only 10 beds available, so make sure you’re at the front of the queue to book your team on.

The 5k and 10k runs are on the same morning and while less of a spectator event, they are also very special. As an associate charity for the Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon, the Health Charity has launched a recruitment campaign designed to help people start running. As well as offering a free Half Marathon space and charity running vest to people signing up to raise £200 for their local hospitals, the Health Charity has arranged special running sessions supporting people who are just starting on their fitness journey.

What does this have to do with the 10k? If you start running in February with the aim of running a half marathon in October, a 10k on Sunday 20th May is the perfect way to check you’re on track!
