Parents in Bridgend County Borough will be able to access funded childcare for their three and four-year-olds starting this spring.
The Welsh Government’s childcare scheme offers up to 30 hours a week of funded childcare and early education for a total of 48 weeks of the year. It can be accessed by eligible working parents of three to four-year-olds.
The offer is available from the term after a child’s third birthday until the September following their fourth birthday. Parents are no longer eligible for the scheme when their child is offered a full-time school place. However, they can continue to access nine weeks of childcare during holidays.
The aim of the scheme is to reduce the strain of childcare issues on the working parent and to also ensure childcare is not a barrier to parents looking to return to work.
The offer is a combination of the existing Foundation Phase Nursery provision for three and four-year-olds, and additional funded childcare which includes childminders. The offer extends to after school hours, weekends and school holidays.
