Don’t miss the first ever bubble rush in Wales

Tŷ Hafan is hosting the first ever Bubble Rush in Wales, taking place in Coopers Field, Bute Park Cardiff – June 16th. This event is all about creating magical memories with your family and friends, just like the ones that get created at Tŷ Hafan for families!

The 5k course starts in a sea of bubbles and features four bubble stations along the route where cannons pump out coloured foam to create a 4ft deep bubble bath. The course is family friendly, so you can run, jog, walk, dance or toddle through the foam. Bubble Rush is a fun run with a difference helping raise money for Tŷ Hafan.

Tŷ Hafan nurses are the forefront of care and they can’t open their doors without them. Each year more families are turning to them for care and support than ever before. They need to ensure they can keep funding the nurses to meet the growing need on the hospice.

Lead nurse Adrian Smith said “Coming to Tŷ Hafan I found out exactly what a children’s hospice does – respite care, symptom control and crisis support for families in real need”

“A lot of people think a hospice is only for end of life care and that it must be a sad place. Obviously our jobs do involve end of life care, but it can also be a really fun place – one minute you’re in the hydrotherapy pool, then going out on a day trip or painting with the children” said Adrian.

“I remember a father coming up to me at the end of the family’s stay and saying ‘It’s like the holiday we can’t have. We come here, we know she’s in safe hands and we know we can go and relax and not worry about her because you’re with her”.

“It must be such a frightening position for parents when they bring their child home for the first time and have to adapt to medications and equipment like suction machines and ventilators”

“I’m a father myself and I can’t even imagine being in that position. It’s a massive thing that takes over their lives and turns their world upside down. It’s overwhelming. Even a simple trip to the shops becomes a military operation.

Jodie Harris, Events Manager at Tŷ Hafan, said “By taking part in our Bubble Rush, you are helping our families make the most of the precious time they have left together.
