It’s the undisputed king of dessert chains and has taken the Cardiff food scene by storm. Kaspas Desserts has all the sweet treats you could ever wish for from cakes, crepes and puddings, to waffles, milkshakes, sundaes and lots more. We love the strawberry shortcake waffle, topped with fresh strawberry slices and crushed digestives, drizzled with white chocolate sauce and finished with white chocolate curls (£5.95).

Brioche Doughnuts

The Early Bird’s signature brioche doughnuts are made with Welsh dairy free-range eggs and locally milled flour. Made from scratch by bakery apprentices, this is one of many skills that this cherished cafe and bakery helps its budding young bakers to master.

Priced at £2.50 each, these fluffy brioche beauties are filled with a range of fillings, from homemade jams to creamy custards, but the hazelnut praline has been the most popular yet. Filled with caramel crème patisserie and topped with chunks of roasted hazelnuts, these are the perfect match for The Early Bird’s short & strong flat whites.

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

Science Cream is the first and only liquid nitrogen ice cream and desserts parlour in Wales, serving a ravishing range of super premium, micro-batch ice creams with lots of tasty homemade sauces and inventive toppings.

Made fresh from scratch as you watch, the ice cream is made using local Welsh milk and cream, and flavours are updated monthly to reflect seasonal produce. All flavours of ice cream are immensely popular, although we’re told the salted chocolate peanut butter, whiskey cinnamon, jam doughnut and Vietnamese coffee ice creams are in particularly high demand.

Prices start at £4.95 for a regular sundae, and £5.95 for a large.

Chocolate Délice and Creme Fraiche Ice Cream

This decadent dark chocolate délice and creme fraiche ice cream (£7.50) is a firm favourite on the menu at The Potted Pig, and it’s clear to see why. The rich, creamy délice is balanced beautifully by the cold, creamy ice cream, while the crumbly base adds a moreish texture.

With five cafes in Cardiff city centre, Milk & Sugar is best known for its Instagrammable brunches and luscious lunches, but it’s desserts are also pretty dreamy.
The constantly changing menu boasts drool-inducing desserts like orange, lemon and lime sponge, key lime pie and carrot cake, but it’s the sticky toffee pudding (£4.25) that’s got us licking our lips.

Paired with a lime and tonka bean yoghurt sorbet and priced at just £5.50, it’s the perfect way round to off your meal. Don’t be fooled by its somewhat simple appearance, though – we’re told it takes a lot of hard work and talent to prepare this tart from scratch every day.

For a guilt free sweet treat head straight over to Bubblebase in Queen’s Arcade and try the fozen yogurt. Once you try it you’ll love it, much like ice cream, except that it’s 100% fat free. There’s four different flavours to try but we love the Mango & Passionfruit. You can even make it one of your five a day with the fresh fruit toppings and if you want something sweeter there’s chocolate chips and marshmallows.
