Knee-high boots are a stylish winter warmer and they’re perfect for pairing with midi dresses, says Katie Wright.
It might not feel like it, but we’re only half-way through winter, and while the nights are starting to get lighter, there’s still a whole lot of chilly weather yet to come. Sigh.
That means the sartorial challenge continues: how to look stylish and stay warm at the same?
Luckily, the Duchess of Cambridge is here to help. Kate recently showed off an outfit which perfectly solves this cold-weather conundrum.
Combining a long-sleeved midi dress with knee-high boots, the mum-of-three looked cosy but chic as she and Prince William visited Bulldogs Development Centre in Port Talbot.
Kate’s red dress is from Zara and her black suede boots are an old pair from Russell & Bromley she’s worn many a time (we can see why).
The 38-year-old completed her look with a black belt, a golden locket necklace and hoop earrings, plus a navy coat, heart print scarf and red clutch bag when she was outdoors.
The key to making this look work, is to combine boots that are high enough with a dress that is long enough, so you don’t end up with a gap between the two.
The rest is up to you. You could take a leaf out of Kate’s book with block colours, or mix it up with a floral print dress.
Dark hues work well at this time of year, but equally, tan or cream boots bring a certain freshness to your winter wardrobe.
As for heels, Kate opted for sensible square heels and a round-toed boot, but if you haven’t got a lot of walking to do, why not try a stiletto heel or a pointed toe?
